A former representative of the Jos South/East Federal Constituency, Dachung Bagos, has expressed that he does not perceive any signs of recovery for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the upcoming general elections.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s breakfast program on Monday, Bagos stated that the party’s internal conflicts and neglect of due process have created uncertainty for potential candidates.
He indicated that the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Muftwang, remains the political leader whose guidance they are awaiting to determine their next steps if the PDP fails to address its issues before the elections.
Bagos criticized the party for issuing only one nomination form for the chairmanship election, which was later annulled by the court due to a lack of due process.
He also condemned the procedures for suspension and expulsion that were implemented at the convention, arguing that the party did not establish a disciplinary committee prior to taking such actions.
The former lawmaker encouraged party members and aspirants to carefully evaluate the situation and seek broader consultations, cautioning that the party’s current path does not inspire confidence.
He stated: “Currently, I can tell you that the leader of the ‘Plateau People’s Party’, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Muftwang, is someone we are looking to for direction regarding which registered party to join if the PDP fails to rectify its issues before the election. We will certainly hear from him. But for now, we must be honest with ourselves.
“At this moment, I do not see any light at the end of the tunnel for the PDP as we approach the general elections, especially for anyone planning to contest, because how can two significant issues arise within just three weeks or a month?
“Firstly, only one nomination form was sold for the chairmanship election. The court ruled that there was no due process. Secondly, there should have been a disciplinary committee established before anyone was suspended or expelled. Instead, it was merely decided through a voice vote at the convention.
“When you observe that due process is not being followed, those of you running for election should reflect carefully, assess the situation, consult with your constituents, and seek a way forward.
“We must not be political regarding the truth. I have consistently told my people the truth. Thus, as it stands, I do not see a light at the end of the tunnel.”
