The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has refuted claims that he directed stakeholders to boycott the commissioning and partial opening of the Bonny/Bodo Road by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.

Wike stated that he was not aware of the commissioning, which occurred earlier in December 2025.

The minister provided this clarification on Tuesday during a Christmas visit to his supporters in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

He noted that on the same day as the commissioning, he was attending the funeral of Senator Allwell Onyeso's sister, pointing out that many political leaders were also unaware of the Federal Government delegation's visit.

According to him, once he learned about the commissioning, he instructed stakeholders throughout the Ogoni region to attend the event.

Wike characterized the allegations against him as politically motivated, asserting that fabrications would not guarantee anyone an automatic governorship ticket.

He said, “Some individuals politicize everything. I have heard people claim that I instructed certain leaders not to attend when the Federal Government delegation arrived.

“That is a blatant lie.

“On that specific day, we were attending the burial of Senator Allwell Onyeso's sister, and most leaders were unaware that such a visit was happening.

“When I became aware, I insisted they should go. The fact that you are informed about it being a Federal delegation, you must ensure attendance.”

Wike further mentioned that he did not receive a formal invitation to the commissioning.

“After all, I was not invited; no one informed me. Yet, people will engage in political maneuvering. I have stated that no amount of conspiracy or falsehood will secure anyone a ticket.

“Feel free to spread all sorts of lies about me; it does not guarantee a ticket,” he remarked.

The gathering was attended by prominent political figures from the region, including Victor Giadom, the South-South Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Magnus Abe, and others.
