Great Britain equalled their best ever medal tally, but won multiple gold medals for the first time at a Winter Olympics, with Matt Weston alone winning more than any other Games.

Where is the closing ceremony being held?

Despite the Winter Olympics being held across Milan, Cortina and Livigno, the closing ceremony will be held in Verona.

The amphitheatre was built in 30 AD and has seen gladiator battles, battle reenactments and public ceremonies.

The iconic arena secured its place in history in the early 1900s due to opera performances from legendary Italian tenor Giovanni Zenatello, and has now been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The arena has undergone a huge renovation ahead of tonight’s closing ceremony – it has also been renamed the Verona Olympic Arena.

The arena was chosen to better emphasise Italy’s ancient history with modern sport and culture.

Verona is a two-hour drive from Milan, meaning athletes and fans will have to make the trip for the traditional closing event.

What will take place at the closing ceremony?

  • The two-and-a-half-hour event will celebrate Italian dance and music, both contemporary and classic.
  • Roberto Bolle – international ballet dancer – will headline the ceremony.
  • Italian singer Achille Lauro and DJ Gaby Ponte will also perform in Verona.
  • Flagbearers from each country will also appear, as well as the traditional passing of the Olympic torch to France, who host the 2030 Winter Games.
