JURGEN KLOPP has wielded the axe for the second time in a week in his role as Red Bull’s head of global football, with Stephane Gilli the latest manager to go.

The former boss, now overseeing all clubs in the Red Bull stable including Paris FC, has moved decisively with the strugglers sitting 15th in the table.

It comes despite Klopp publicly backing Gilli in a recent interview as pressure mounted on the Frenchman, insisting he believed in the project and the man leading it.

But with the club’s primary objective to stay in Ligue 1 this season, Red Bull chiefs have acted.

A club statement released on Sunday confirmed the decision.

It read: “Paris FC announces the end of its collaboration with Stephane Gilli, first team coach, effective February 22, 2026.

“Having taken over as head coach in 2023, Stephane has had a significant impact on the club.

“In two seasons, he has contributed to the team’s numerous successes, culminating in Paris FC’s return to Ligue 1, a major milestone in the club’s recent history.

“The club would like to warmly thank Stephane Gilli for his commitment, professionalism and all the work he accomplished during his time at Paris FC.

“Stephane Gilli will remain in the memory of all those who love this club, the one that allowed it to return to Ligue 1, almost half a century after leaving it.

“An unparalleled professional conscience, tireless work, loyalty and kindness appreciated by all will have marked his time at the club.

“I am convinced that his talent and skills will continue to be expressed at the highest level.

“Paris FC wishes him every success for the rest of his career.”

Gilli had guided the club back to the top flight in what was hailed as a historic achievement.

But with results faltering and relegation fears growing, Klopp and the Red Bull hierarchy have opted for change.

It is the second managerial casualty in quick succession under Klopp’s watch.

Earlier this week, Thomas Letsch was dismissed at Red Bull Salzburg .

Letsch only took charge at the start of 2025 and lasted just over a year before being shown the door.

Klopp’s executive role sees him preside over Red Bull’s network of clubs, making key strategic and footballing decisions, including managerial appointments.

And he has wasted little time making his authority felt.
