The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, has announced that he is now a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasizing his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to internal divisions.

Amaewhule made this announcement on Friday during a plenary session when he defected from the PDP along with 15 other lawmakers.

He expressed his commitment to ensuring that he receives his APC membership card without delay.

“Esteemed colleagues, I am pleased to inform you that your Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, has made the decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has formally communicated this to my ward chairman.

“Esteemed colleagues, the APC is my new political party. I will take all necessary steps to obtain my membership card for the All Progressives Congress as soon as possible.

“As I stand here today, I am a member of the All Progressives Congress, and I am proud to be part of the APC so that we can collaborate with Mr. President.

“Mr. President is doing a tremendous job for this nation. President Bola Tinubu has the best interests of Nigeria at heart. He is addressing security challenges and has shown great support for Rivers State.

“Mr. President is ensuring that the people of Rivers are included in the governance of this country. Thus, I am excited to be part of the All Progressives Congress so that we can support Mr. President from within the APC. The primary reason for my departure from the PDP is the internal divisions present in the party,” he stated.
