Cardiff City manager, Erol Bulut has revealed the reason behind Jamilu Collins’ decision to withdraw from Nigeria’s upcoming friendlies against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.
Collins was among the 25 players listed for both games by Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro.
The left-back was, however, unable to honour the invitation due to fitness concerns.
Boavista defender Chidozie Awaziem has been called up as his replacement.
“Collins will get injured if he leaves for the international break,” Bulut told Wales Online.
“Neither side wants that. The club doesn’t need it, the national team doesn’t need it, we have to protect him.”
The 29-year-old missed almost the entire part of last season’s campaign as a result of a cruciate ligament injury.
He has made nine appearances for Cardiff City this season, with one assist to his name.
