AN emergency situation has been unfolding at an elementary school in Virginia.

The children at the Westwood Elementary School were confirmed to be safe on Wednesday morning after a massive police response was seen at the school.

There was a report of an active shooting at the school, but no further details were available, WTVR reported.

The Waynesboro Police Department said it was “managing an emergency” at the school, added a reunification center would be set up at the nearby Westminister Pressbyterian Church.

“The children are safe and are being evacuated from the School. Please wait for notification and instruction from Waynesboro Public Schools,” The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office said.

“Please DO NOT respond to the school we need access for the buses and emergency vehicles.”

Other schools in the area were placed under lockdown.

Ambulances and dozens of cop cars could be seen at the scene.

The FBI also arrived on scene and officers could be seen putting on vests, according WHSV.
