West Ham's Vision for London Stadium Gets a Boost from Sadiq Khan: A New Initiative for the Controversial 68,013-Seater Venue

WEST HAM could finally be given the chance to take control of the London Stadium after London Mayor Sadiq Khan signalled he would welcome talks over the club buying its controversial home.

The bombshell development comes as closes in on a major investment in the Hammers, with the former co-owner previously revealing she wants her next venture to include a significant property element.

According to City AM , the door has now been left open for future discussions over the stadium’s ownership, with Khan’s office indicating it would be prepared to consider proposals that offer better value for taxpayers.

The has long divided among supporters since West Ham moved from Upton Park in 2016, with many fans criticising the vast former Olympic venue for its atmosphere and distance between the pitch and the stands.

Now there could finally be a route for the club to reshape its future at the 68,013-capacity ground.

In a significant signal that the situation could change in the future, a spokesperson for London Mayor Sadiq Khan told City AM : “The Mayor would welcome any discussions regarding the London Stadium that would deliver greater value for money for Londoners.”

While there are no formal negotiations under way, the comments are likely to raise hopes among sections of the West Ham support that the club could eventually gain greater control over the stadium.

Owning the ground would potentially allow West Ham to unlock new commercial opportunities, increase matchday revenues and make longer-term decisions over the venue’s future development.
