Vice President Kashim Shettima has referred to the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Maga village, located in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, as a national tragedy.

During his visit to Kebbi, Shettima assured that the Federal Government would make every effort to secure the safe return of the 25 abducted girls.

“The pain of Kebbi is felt by all of Nigeria,” he stated, adding that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is dedicated to the ongoing rescue operations.

Shettima emphasized that all available federal and state security resources would be utilized to ensure the girls are safely returned. He also expressed support for the family of the late Vice Principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, who reportedly lost his life while defending the students.

The Vice President recognized the contributions of the Nigerian military, police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the rescue efforts.

Shettima was accompanied by several officials, including the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, the Minister of Women Affairs, and the APC National Chairman.

Governor Nasir Idris expressed gratitude to the Vice President and President Tinubu for their visit and voiced confidence in the Federal Government’s response to the insecurity in the state.
