The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) have urged Education Management Information System (EMIS) officers to fully embrace the newly launched digital monitoring system aimed at tracking student attendance in public basic schools throughout the State.
During a three-day capacity-building workshop on the Basic Education Management Information System (BAMIS) application, held at the SUBEB Conference Room in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, SUBEB Chairman Olalekan Ifede made this appeal.
According to DAILY POST, the training, which received support from the World Bank under the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme, was organized collaboratively by SUBEB and UBEC.
Ifede expressed that the workshop would enhance the State’s EMIS operations and align them with the Digital Platform for Education Revitalisation (DIPER), in accordance with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Building Our Future Together agenda.
He encouraged participants to share the knowledge acquired with teachers and school administrators to facilitate effective, real-time monitoring of student attendance.
“I am particularly thankful that we have commenced the implementation of the BESDA projects in the State despite initial delays. Since taking office, I have worked diligently to resume pending training and initiatives, including BESDA. I hope that other activities under the programme will continue as planned to support my vision of ensuring that all learners in the State excel in literacy, numeracy, and effective communication,” he stated.
Ifede congratulated the selected EMIS officers for their training and urged them to engage fully with the facilitators to maximize the benefits, emphasizing that accurate data is crucial for delivering effective basic education.
Additionally, Permanent Member IV of the Board, Akeem Balogun, praised the resource persons for their commendable work and urged participants to apply the knowledge gained during the workshop to improve efficiency in their respective departments.
In his welcome address, SUBEB Board Secretary Mr. Olubori Akinleye underscored the significance of ongoing training to keep education managers informed about modern, data-driven practices, emphasizing that timely and accurate data collection is vital for effective planning and decision-making.
Facilitators from UBEC, including Assistant Chief Project Officer Ilyas Hussain, Assistant Chief Data Analyst Mr. Shehu Gusau, and Principal Education Officer Mr. Adams Adedeji, explained that the BAMIS application is designed to enhance data collection, improve monitoring, and support informed decision-making within the basic education sector.
They highlighted several advantages of the BAMIS platform, including real-time attendance tracking, improved data accuracy, strengthened planning and resource allocation, enhanced monitoring and supervision, reduced workload, and extensive support for digital transformation in education.
On behalf of the participants, Mr. Bakare Mobolaji from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and Mr. Banjo Babatunde of SUBEB noted that the training would greatly improve digital attendance monitoring and deepen their understanding of EMIS data collation.
