Kaduna State Governor, Malam Uba Sani says his government has been olhonest about the abduction of residents in Kurmin Wali village, Kajuru Local Government Area, and has nothing else to hide.
Speaking on the incident in an interview with BBC Hausa, the governor said he acted immediately attack happened by reaching out to top security officials across the country.
“We have nothing to hide about what happened in Kurmin Wali. As soon as the attack happened, I met with all the heads of security agencies at the national level,” he said.
Governor Uba Sani explained that his main focus is bringing back the people who were taken, not arguing over how the news of the mass abduction came to light.
“In Kaduna, we do not mix security with politics. We depend on information from the security agencies, and we trust them. They are the first people we call when there is trouble, so condemning them helps no one,” he said.
The attack happened on Sunday when armed men entered Kurmin Wali village. Early reports suggest that more than 170 people may have been taken, causing fear and confusion in the community.
At first, the police and state officials questioned the reports, but the government later confirmed that the attack did take place. However, the exact number of people abducted is yet to be confirmed.
The governor said he is closely following the rescue efforts and has met with key security officials, including the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa; the Director-General of the DSS; and the Inspector-General of Police, to ensure quick action.
He also made it clear that his government will not pay ransom, even though the kidnappers have not made any demands so far.“We have a policy. We do not pay ransom,” he said.
Governor Uba Sani called on residents of Kaduna State to support security agencies by sharing useful information, saying security is everyone’s responsibility.
“Government cannot do this alone. People must continue to work with security agencies,” he said.
He assured families of the abducted victims that his government will not give up until everyone is rescued.
“As governor, I will not rest. By God’s grace, we will make sure all our people return home safely,” he emphasized.
