WAYNE MARDLE tore into Josh Rock after making a woeful start to his Premier League Darts career.

The Northern Irishman, 24, crashed to a 6-2 defeat against Michael van Gerwen in Antwerp.

It means that he has suffered back-to-back losses on his debut in the competition.

And reckons Rock, who posted a worryingly low average of 79.34 as he struggled against Van Gerwen, needs to take stock to rediscover his best form.

The 52-year-old said: “The Premier League is not about winning early doors, it’s about feeling okay.

“If you feel okay after losing three weeks on the bounce, it’s alright. You can get away with it because you feel confident enough you are playing well enough.

“It’s like Stephen Bunting loses eight on the bounce last year — he wasn’t playing poorly, he then wins one.

“That will hurt because last week he didn’t get into the game because of Jonny Clayton.

“This week he didn’t get into it because he was so poor. He’s got things to think about.

“Josh Rock won’t be able to forget about that until he puts things right.”

Van Gerwen, 36, reached the final on night two of the – only to be beaten by Gerwyn Price.

And Rock headed onto social media to apologise for his underwhelming performance in Antwerp.

He wrote on Instagram : “Want to apologise to everyone who watched me. I felt fantastic up there but had no grip on my fingers.

“Is what it is, we move on. All the best Michael van Gerwen.”

Night three of the Premier League Darts season will be held in Glasgow on February 19, with Rock facing .
