These small parts pose a choking hazard to young children, especially those under 36 months of age, according to reports.
Priced at just £1, this product was given to thousands of children as a stocking stuffer on Christmas Day.
Parents who bought the item for their children have been instructed to stop using it, package it securely, and return it to their local Waitrose & Partners store for a refund.
The supermarket chain also advises keeping the product out of reach of children to prevent any potential harm.
The product does not meet safety requirements.
A statement from the Office for Product Safety and Standards noted: “The product presents a serious choking risk as the straw can disintegrate, creating small parts.
“These small parts pose a choking hazard to young children, particularly those under 36 months of age, who naturally tend to explore objects by placing them in their mouths.”
This recall comes just days after food and beverage giant Nestlé issued a warning regarding certain batches of its SMA infant and follow-on formula, which are unsafe for consumption.
The batches, which Nestlé has declared unsafe for babies, have been sold globally.
The products may contain cereulide , a substance that can cause symptoms similar to food poisoning, such as nausea and vomiting when consumed.
While the company stated that there have been no reports of illness linked to these products, it is recalling them “out of an abundance of caution.”
“The safety and well-being of babies is our utmost priority,” the company said in a statement.
“We sincerely apologize for any concern or inconvenience caused to parents, caregivers, and customers.”
