Super Falcons head coach, Justin Madugu, has explained Esther Okoronkwo’s decision to shoot instead of passing the ball to teammate Asisat Oshoala during Nigeria’s 1-0 defeat to Cameroon in the quarter-finals of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON.
During the closing stages of the encounter on Sunday, Okoronkwo had an opportunity to level the score after breaking into a goal-scoring position, with Oshoala also available in a better position.
She opted to kick the ball away instead of passing it to the former Barcelona striker as Cameroon was awarded a goal kick.
Speaking on the development at his post-match interview, Madugu said, “I am sure she [Esther] felt she could score. That was why she attempted.
“She probably could have passed the ball to Asisat, who was in a better position to score. That is not to say there is any division. There is no division.”
