BRITISH speedway prospect Vinnie Foord confesses he felt like quitting out of embarrassment after nearly missing races because he was stuck in a TOILET.

The young athlete accidentally locked himself in the restroom just before he was scheduled to race for his club, Workington.

The ‘Vindaloo’ incident occurred during a home match against Redcar in late July, after Foord decided to use the restroom following his first heat 2 race.

Concerns arose when Foord was absent as he was expected to compete in heat 4. After a prolonged delay, Comets promoter Andrew Bain managed to break the lock off the door, allowing Foord to join the race.

Foord, 19, has now shared his thoughts on the incident for the first time: “The meeting was going smoothly. I quickly went to the restroom before my next race. Suddenly, I tried the handle and the door wouldn’t budge.

“I was incredibly embarrassed. I didn’t have my phone with me because I was wearing my kevlars race suit.

“Fortunately, the Redcar media representative was in another stall and had his phone. He called someone to inform them we were trapped.

“The real concern came when Workington's boss Andrew couldn't unlock the door from the outside, and we were stuck for a while. I thought I might miss the meeting stuck in the toilet!

“Eventually, Andrew managed to break the lock off the door with some kind of crowbar.

“Now they’ve removed the lock from the inside, and the restroom door will remain open for the rest of the season!”

“I have definitely learned my lesson and now make sure to use the restroom before the meeting starts to avoid a situation like that again. However, at that moment, I was so embarrassed that I considered quitting!”

The son of a tattoo artist, Foord achieved a treble with Poole a year ago, having been involved in two major high-speed crashes during the Grand Final.

He later received death threats from rival fans after a heated confrontation at Wimborne Road and was labeled as “dangerous.”

Foord now believes he has proven himself but was left devastated when his engine failed just as he was set to win the British Under-19 Championship last month.

He added: “I think I am certainly growing as a rider. I’ve had fewer crashes. I just need to smooth out the rough edges.

“Going into that race, I knew that if I won, I would become the British Under-19 Champion. I was really looking forward to the race.

“I was last off the start but managed to work my way to the front.

“It was an incredible feeling, and then my engine seized just as I took the lead.

“I was heartbroken. But I need to leave that in the past and move forward.

“Those events are all about consistency, and on my day, I proved I can deliver five solid rides. I was just unlucky that my engine failed in my last race.”
