Uzodinma’s state address exposes leadership weakness – PDP

Published on June 26, 2025 at 06:30 PM

The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described the recent State of the State address delivered by Governor Hope Uzodinma during his official visit to the State House of Assembly as misleading, lacking in truth, and devoid of transparency.

The party further stated that the governor’s speech exposed the weakness of the present administration in tackling the insecurity and economic hardship facing the state.

A press statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Lancelot Obiaku, said that the address presented by Uzodinma was “full of emptiness, uninspiring with old tales without positive future.”;

According to the statement: “There was nothing new from his last address a year and half ago. He literally read the same script but an edited version bearing a new set of lies and make-believe.

“Uzodinma again, spent quality minutes blaming an unnamed opposition for the insecurity that has ravaged the state since his infamous ascension to power as governor in 2020. It was the same old and empty rhetoric. In addition, he lied that his administration has now overcome the menace of insecurity.”;

Obiaku asserted that it is unbelievable and unfortunate that Uzodinma’s administration is claiming to have overcome insecurity, whereas many parts of the state are presently facing severe security challenges.

“Okigwe, Onuimo, Ihitte-Uboma, Owerri West, Oguta, Ngor-Okpala, Orsu, and Orlu LGAs are currently under the siege of hoodlums, kidnappers, terrorists, and organ harvesters. He intentionally forgot that on May 6, 2025, a sad incident occurred in Ngor-Okpala where 26 passengers were kidnapped on the Owerri-Aba road and one of them reportedly shot dead on the spot by suspected Fulani terrorists.

“The whereabouts of the rest 25 are unknown up till today. Also, on May 8, in what has become a routine strike in some LGAs, unknown gunmen launched attack in Umuna in Okigwe LGA, burning over twenty trucks, razing shops, and reportedly taking more than 20 innocent lives, leaving many families in agony,”; Obiaku further stated.

The PDP spokesperson also pointed out that many lives of Imo citizens were lost in Agwa community, Oguta LGA, to attacks by suspected Fulani terrorists.

According to him, Amakohia-Ubi in Owerri West LGA is also experiencing constant attacks from similar incidents allegedly masterminded by the same armed Fulani herdsmen.

He further noted that the situation remains the same in some parts of Avu, Obinze, and Okuku, where it cases of kidnapping, ritual killings, and terrorist attacks are reportedly spreading on a daily basis.

The Imo State PDP spokesperson accused Gov Uzodinma of turning a deaf ear to the recent attacks, pretending his administration has not failed in securing the lives and property of Imo people.

“After spending over an hour massaging his ego, and reeling off his purported achievements, Gov Uzodinma did not tell Imo people how much has accrued to the state, both as federal allocation to the state and local governments, intervention funds, and internally generated revenue, in the last five years, and how they were spent,”; Obiaku added.

He noted that the main aspect of the event was neglected, pointing out that the Governor could not answer questions about contracts claimed by his administration, or say to whom they were awarded.

“The recent State of the State address by Gov Uzodinma like any other he did in the past is a mere jamboree. It is worthless, empty and useless,”; he concluded.
