USAIN BOLT has followed the lead of a number of Premier League icons by joining Sunday league side Wythenshawe Vets.

is a footy fanatic who even had a stint with a professional club in ‘s top tier, scoring for the Central Coast Mariners in a friendly.

He has also trained with and Norwegian side Stromsgodset in his hunt to spark a career in the sport in the late 2010s.

But now he has found a new footballing home as he registered to play with the Manchester-based club, which competes in the Cheshire Veterans football league.

But Wythenshawe Vets are , boasting the talents of a number of top retired footballers over the years, of ex-Manchester City man Stephen Ireland.

The likes of , Papiss Cisse and are among the stars to have turned out for the side.

Also registered to the club are , Joleon Lescott, Maynor Figueroa and , among other top-flight stars.

Bolt toyed with the idea of getting involved in the unique weekend project earlier this year.

When asked on talkSPORT , he said: “Listen, I’m ready. I’m ready. If I get into some shape, I’m ready to go.”

The Jamaican sprinter is an eight-time Olympic gold medalist, and holds the current world records in both the 100m and 200m events.

And its fair to say that the defenders of the over-35 Cheshire vets league might still struggle to keep pace with the forward today.

Bolt has kept himself in top shape since his retirement, and is a regular fixture for World XI at charity football event , whom he has both captained and, most recently, managed.

If there was ever an environment where the pressure off, this could be it for the star.

Wythenshawe vets have produced some memorable light-hearted moments, such as in which he saw a penalty saved and sent the subsequent corner straight out of play before it had even reached the penalty box.
