Political analyst Mahdi Shehu has claimed that the labeling of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as an Islamic fundamentalist is part of a deliberate political strategy aimed at diminishing his influence and weakening opposition groups.
Shehu made the remarks in a post on his verified account on X on Thursday, drawing attention to what he described as local and foreign sponsored profiling of opposition leaders, including Kwankwaso.
“Truth be told, Kwankwaso is being declared an Islamic fundamentalist fully aware he does not have that record, not by mistake but as part of a broader design to diminish whatever political relevance he possesses and weaken the strength of the opposition groups,” he wrote.
He highlighted a pattern of timing that, in his view, links political events to these labels.
Shehu noted, for example, that two weeks after various political moves such as consultations abroad, decamping of the Kano State Governor, and discussions about running mate positions, Kwankwaso was branded an Islamic fundamentalist.
He described this as part of a sequence of political maneuvers likened to arithmetic, geometry, algebra, trigonometry and pre-calculus of 2027 elections.
“If declaring Kwankwaso an ‘Islamic fundamentalist’ is based on his signing of the Sharia Criminal Code Law in Kano during his tenure as Governor, then it follows that all Northern state governors who signed Sharia laws during and after Obasanjo’s regime would also be Islamic fundamentalists. This includes the governors of Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Bauchi, Jigawa, Gombe, Borno, and Yobe,” Mahdi Shehu said.
“Two weeks after Pastor Remi Tinubu attended the Americas Annual Prayer Breakfast where she allegedly called for more bombs on Northern Nigeria and held some consultations, American lawmakers declared Kwankwaso an ‘Islamic fundamentalist.’ This is not a coincidence; Kwankwaso is part of a political equation. It is arithmetic.
“Two weeks after the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang Mennasse, attended the same prayer breakfast, Kwankwaso was designated an ‘Islamic fundamentalist.’ This is not a coincidence but mathematics.
“Two weeks after the decamping of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf from NNPP to APC, Kwankwaso was branded an ‘Islamic fundamentalist.’ This is not a coincidence but geometry.
“Two weeks after Kwankwaso suggested he was willing to be Obi’s running mate, he was marooned and painted as an ‘Islamic fundamentalist.’ It is not a coincidence but algebra. Two weeks after Kwankwaso was visited by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and former Defence Minister Badaru, he was assigned the ‘Islamic fundamentalist logo.’ This is not a coincidence but trigonometry and pre-calculus of the 2027 elections.
“Truth be told, Kwankwaso is being declared an ‘Islamic fundamentalist’ fully aware he does not have that record not by mistake but as part of a broader design to diminish whatever political relevance he possesses and weaken the strength of opposition groups,” Shehu stressed.
Shehu further suggested that similar profiling could extend to other opposition figures.
“Next will be to declare Atiku Abubakar, Nasiru El-Rufai, Tambuwal, Senator Abdul Ningi, etc., as ‘terrorist sponsors.’”
According to him, the witches’ may even declare Rotimi Ameachi, Babachir Lawal, David Mark, Solomon Dunlong, Dele Momodu, John Odigie Oyegun, Ralph Nwosu, Leke Abejide, and others as ‘Christian fundamentalist terror sponsors’ and anti-Christ.”
“All these local and foreign sponsored profiling of particularly opposition leaders is nothing but POLITICAL DESPERATION taken to Jupiter level and which will come down and be humbled by God himself. it is just a matter of time,” he said.
He criticized what he described as a growing narrative in certain US political circles and among Nigeria’s commercial religious groups, aimed at blaming Islam and Muslims for the death of every human, animal and insect soul on earth.
“All animals that foolishly accept the lion’s invitation for dinner will end up in the lion’s belly as appetizers.”
Shehu concluded his post with a biblical reference.
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.’”
