After a wet and windy Thursday for many, Friday will bring cloud and patchy rain, with eastern areas experiencing sunny spells – but temperatures will stay below average for June.
However, as we head into .
The weather will get drier and warmer as conditions will become more settled.
This coming shift in weather conditions is because of a change in the jet stream, which is currently running across the UK and driving unsettled Atlantic weather fronts across the country.
Dan Stroud, meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “We’re looking at temperatures climbing into the weekend, particularly on Saturday and Sunday, so feeling much warmer than recent days, with temperatures quite widely above average, especially across the south come Saturday, and even more so on Sunday.”
The Met Office has also predicted that after cool and wet conditions, Brits should brace for a warm and sunny weekend with highs of 30C.
Dan said: “How high the temperatures get is still open to a fair amount of debate.
“There is growing signal that temperatures will be heading comfortably into the high 20s, perhaps breaking 30 degrees again.
“There is definitely a chance of temperatures scraping into the above 30 degrees on Sunday, and then more so on Monday.
“We keep close tabs on it because there is always the potential for hitting heatwave criteria again.”
This comes after just two week after May 26 became the hottest day in May on record for both England and Wales, with 35.1C measured at Kew Gardens and 32.9C at Cardiff Bute Park.
Deputy Chief Meteorologist David Oliver said: “Over this weekend the weather will become drier and more settled as high pressure begins to build.
“It will turn warmer with temperatures above average for many. By Sunday, some parts of the south may reach 26 to 28°C, although the exact values are still a little uncertain, there is potential for values to be either a little higher or lower than this.
“This warm spell is expected to persist into the start of next week, especially in the south.
“However, there remains some uncertainty how long the warm weather will last, as with any forecast at this time range, the details will become clearer over the coming days.”
