The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) addressed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, on Monday regarding his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s recent trip to Europe, emphasizing that “Nigeria is not governed from a village square.”
The party's spokesman, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, stated that when faced with significant governance challenges, strategic leadership, and results-oriented diplomacy, the ADC predictably resorts to “noise, misinformation, and pedestrian politics.”
In a statement he signed, Oladejo remarked: “In a connected world, effective leadership requires ongoing engagement with global partners, investors, development institutions, and strategic allies. President Tinubu’s trip to Europe is firmly grounded in this reality.
“It aims to promote Nigeria’s economic interests, enhance bilateral relations, attract investments, and bolster Nigeria’s position among nations—not merely to embark on sightseeing excursions, as the opposition would have Nigerians believe.
“Only those lacking intellectual rigor would think that leadership is limited to being physically present within national borders. President Tinubu governs with purpose, structure, and continuity. The government operates continuously, driven by clear policy direction, delegated authority, and institutional strength. Nigeria does not come to a standstill simply because the President is engaging with the world on behalf of its citizens.”
Oladejo highlighted that the ADC’s obsession with travel once again reveals its chronic lack of innovative ideas, stating that “With nothing substantial to offer Nigerians—no roadmap, no credible economic alternatives, no security strategy—it has resorted to monitoring flight schedules and issuing press releases steeped in envy and ignorance. This fixation reveals a party still struggling to grasp the requirements of modern governance.”
He added: “Ironically, many of those now feigning outrage were silent, complicit, or even enthusiastic supporters during years of wasteful foreign trips that yielded little for the nation. Today, however, under President Tinubu, international engagements are clearly aligned with Nigeria’s economic recovery agenda, foreign direct investment initiatives, energy transition objectives, infrastructure financing, and renewed global relevance.”
Reminding the ADC that “Nigerians are not deceived,” he asserted, “They can distinctly see the difference between a President diligently working—both at home and abroad—to reposition the nation, and an opposition permanently caught in the politics of distraction and superficial headline-chasing.”
Oladejo emphasized that as the year comes to a close and Nigerians look forward to a new one with renewed hope and cautious optimism, the opposition must be urged to improve its approach.
“Empty, meaningless noise-making has turned it into a caricature and a running joke in the public eye. Serious times demand serious alternatives, not recycled outrage and superficial theatrics.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda is not just a slogan; it is an ongoing process that necessitates bold domestic reforms and purposeful international engagement. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains firmly in charge—decisive, deliberate, and globally engaged—for the benefit of Nigeria and its people,” he concluded.
