The victims have been identified as Matthew Hardy and Daniel Atkinson.
Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, according to North Wales Police, following a collision involving an Isuzu recovery truck and a Golf car.
Authorities are now seeking witnesses to come forward and have referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
The police stated: “Sadly, the driver of the recovery vehicle, 34-year-old Matthew Hardy from Pwllheli, was pronounced dead at the scene, and his family is being supported by specially trained Family Liaison Officers.
“The driver of the Golf, 40-year-old Daniel Atkinson from Blaenau Ffestiniog, also died at the scene.
“His family has also been contacted by specially trained officers.”
Detective Sergeant Katie Davies from North Wales Police’s Serious Collision Unit expressed, “Our thoughts are very much with the families and friends of both men.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist with our ongoing investigation to contact us as soon as possible.
“The road will remain closed until later this afternoon (December 22). We appreciate the local community and motorists for their patience and understanding.”
After the crash, Chief Inspector Trystan Bevan of the NWP Roads Policing Unit remarked: “This is unfortunately being investigated as a fatal road traffic collision. I extend my deepest condolences to the families during this challenging time.
“I am appealing to anyone who was traveling on the A487 between 9:00 PM and 9:40 PM on December 20, 2025, who witnessed the collision or may have dashcam footage, to reach out to the police.”
