Two individuals have lost their lives following an explosion that occurred in the garden of a residence.

Authorities and emergency services arrived swiftly after receiving reports of the explosion shortly after 6 PM yesterday at a two-storey home in South.

It was later confirmed that two people were declared deceased at the site of the fire on Heol Fawr in Nelson on Friday evening.

Their relatives and family members have been notified, according to Gwent Police.

Residents living nearby the explosion site were advised to keep their doors and windows closed while the fire service attended to the situation.

Meanwhile, specialized fire crews are anticipated to stay at the location this morning to conduct a structural evaluation of the property.

Gwent Police stated: “Officers and firefighters from the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service are present at the scene of a fire at a residence on Heol Fawr, Nelson.

“This follows reports of an explosion around 6:10 PM in the garden of the property.

“Sadly, two individuals have been pronounced dead at the scene, and their family has been informed.

“The incident is ongoing, and the road is currently closed. Diversions are in place to ensure your safety.

“Please find an alternative route for your journey.

“If you reside in the area, please ensure that all doors and windows are shut.”
