A group known as PDP Advocates for Peace and Justice (PAPaJ) has expressed optimism regarding the return of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to power with Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as the party's National Chairman.
Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, was selected as the consensus candidate for the national chairmanship of the PDP by Northern Elders and party stakeholders.
The Chairman of PAPaJ, Dr. Tom FredFish, while praising the Northern Elders in a statement on Friday, stated that this move symbolizes a renewed sense of hope and a strategic repositioning of the PDP in preparation for the 2025 National Elective Convention in Ibadan, as well as the 2027 general elections.
He remarked, “With Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, at the helm, the PDP is on the path to revival, rebranding, and a successful return to power. The journey to reclaim Aso Rock in 2027 starts now, driven by unity, vision, and purposeful leadership.
“At a time when Nigeria faces significant challenges such as hardship, insecurity, and poor governance stemming from the impunity-driven APC administration, this consensus decision could not have come at a more opportune moment.
“It represents a revival of hope and a strategic restructuring of the PDP ahead of the 2025 National Elective Convention in Ibadan on November 15 – 16, and, more importantly, for the 2027 general elections.
“This is not merely an endorsement; it is a rescue mission. It is a calculated step towards transforming the party into a united force capable of reclaiming power and rescuing Nigeria from economic decline, political intolerance, and leadership failures.
*We commend the Northern PDP leaders for prioritizing patriotism over personal interests and showcasing exceptional statesmanship. Their decision has set the stage for reconciliation, discipline, and proactive leadership that will guide the party toward victory.”
He expressed confidence that under the new leadership, the PDP will experience “renewed stability, enhanced internal democracy, revitalized grassroots structures, and a resurgence of public trust across Nigeria.”
He, therefore, urged stakeholders from other regions to emulate the Northern Elders by fostering peace, unity, and consensus-building in the interest of both the party and the nation.
