Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected member of the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
A counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, made this disclosure on X
According to Makama, troops of 25 Brigade in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, arrested the suspect at about 6:30pm on March 18 after intelligence on a suspicious phone conversation between him and another suspected terrorist.
It further revealed that the suspect, who resides within the Damboa general area, confessed during preliminary interrogation to being member of ISWAP who claimed to have disengaged from active operations.
“The suspect and his mobile phone are currently in custody for further investigation and necessary action,” Makama said.
According to military authorities, troops will continue intelligence-driven operations to track and dismantle terrorist cells in the region.
