Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has revealed why the club decided to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

Manchester United have secured the services of the 22-year-old Slovenia international, paying a reported £66.4 million plus £7.3 million in add-ons.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal were said to have shown in interest in signing the attacker earlier in the summer but had to settle for Viktor Gyokeres.

Newcastle also wanted to replace Alexander Isak with the Slovenian.

However, Manchester United, who will not be playing continental football next season, were able to secure Sesko’s services and pundits have described the development as a huge achievement for Amorim’s side.

The Red Devils boss said that the striker has the right character for Manchester United.

As quoted by The Daily Star, the Portuguese manager said, “He has the characteristics that we needed. Ben is a player that, with all the information that we have, we need to stop the guy from working – it is not the opposite! That is also important.”

Explaining further the decision to sign the player, he added, “He is really young, he is good in the air, he is good running the channels and he is good on the ball, so I think he has great potential.

“He is the right character in this group so we are really, really happy to have him.”

The Slovenian attacker has emerged as one of the best young strikers in Europe in the last two seasons.
