Chelsea have opened talks to sign Malick Fofana from Lyon, L’Ãquipe reports.
The Blues have held initial discussions with the Ligue 1 club regarding a potential deal but are yet to submit a formal offer.
Ahead of their Club World Cup clash with Los Angeles LC, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca spoke about his limited attacking options.
Maresca currently has only Tyrique George, Noni Madueke, and Pedro Neto available on the flanks, following Jadon Sancho’s return to Manchester United.
Chelsea recently failed in their attempt to sign Borussia Dortmund attacker Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.
It remains unclear whether the Premier League club will pursue both Bynoe-Gittens and Fofana.
Fofana scored 11 goals and provided six assists in 47 appearances for Lyon across all competitions this season.
Lyon paid â¬19.5 million to sign him from Gent, and any potential suitors must be prepared to meet their valuation.
