Arsenal are nearing a double acquisition from Manchester United, with young talents James Scanlon and Habeen Ogynneye travelling to London to finalise their transfers.
The Gunners aim to recruit players who can be nurtured and contribute to the first team in the future. The club has already secured the signing of Elijah Upson, the son of former England defender Matthew Upson, and is pursuing a deal for Crystal Palace’s Mylo Bernard.
According to the Manchester Evening News, both Scanlon and Ogynneye were in London on Thursday to complete their transfers to Arsenal. It has been reported that both players will join the U21 squad, where they will reunite with former coach David Horseman.
Scanlon, a 19-year-old left winger, has already earned 24 international caps for Gibraltar, the country of his mother’s origin. He spent the latter half of last season on loan at Swindon Town, where he netted once in six League Two matches.
Ogynneye, a 20-year-old right-back, spent the first half of last season on loan at League Two club Newport County, making 21 appearances and scoring once.
This is not the first instance in recent years of young players transferring between Arsenal and Manchester United. In 2024, Manchester United acquired striker Chido Obi after his departure from Arsenal.
They also finalised the signing of defender Ayden Heaven from Arsenal in early 2025.
While the focus is on bringing in young prospects, Arsenal are also looking to be proactive in securing first-team recruits before the summer transfer window closes.
