TOTTENHAM have been warned that Mauricio Pochettino could snub a return to North London if he enjoys a special World Cup with the USA.

And, ahead of today’s daunting trip to Liverpool, Tottenham’s season reached a fresh low point when in the Champions League.

Igor Tudor has remained in charge despite losing each of his four games since being tasked with getting Spurs out of their messy situation.

But he is under intense pressure to get a positive result at Anfield in a last-ditch attempt to save his job.

And there are fears that Pochettino would turn down Tottenham’s advances in the summer.

Former Watford and USA defender Jay DeMerit is adamant that the ex-Chelsea chief will find it difficult to return if he has a World Cup to remember.

He said: “I guess we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

“I think Americans will respect his decision if he chooses to return to .

“But I also think that if he has a successful World Cup, why would he want to go back to that level?

“Every coach sees club management as a stepping stone to get a national team job.

“And when you have a national team job that’s successful, it’s the best job in the world because you don’t have to work as hard as a club coach.

“You don’t have to be there every day. You get to do other things and create a bigger pool, create a bigger fabric in a nation.

“When you take the USA job, you know that the fabric is still waiting to be built. Our fabric isn’t 150 years old like most other countries in the world.

“We have a fabric that’s still being threaded. It’s a great opportunity for a coach to really put their stamp on the thread of a nation.

“And I think if he has a good World Cup, he won’t want to go anywhere else.”

It is understood that he was in the Spanish capital as a guest of the hosts rather than running the rule over his potential future employers.

But speculation over heading back to North London has reached fever pitch after Spurs have endured a season to forget.

They are in serious danger of dropping out of the Premier League for the first time in their history.

Injury-hit Tottenham are still searching for their first top-flight win of 2026 as they gear up for their showdown with Liverpool.

And, if is ruthlessly sacked in the coming days, they will be moving onto their THIRD boss of the campaign.

DeMerit, 46, reckons Pochettino – who guided Spurs close to Champions League and Premier League glory – is capable of leading USA deep into the knockout stages of the World Cup on home soil.

The former centre-back added: “Pochettino started putting some pieces together in the last camp and they are finally finding their feet as a team.

“They are getting good results against good teams.

“There was some controversy involving some of the big name players last year, but I saw them come in for the last camp feeling hungrier and healthier.

“I like our squad and we have players who are leaders at club level all over the world.

“I’m excited. The players are ready to take on the responsibility that comes with a on home soil.

“We have plenty of talent and I think these guys are ready to perform.”
