PREMIER LEAGUE football returns this weekend with a blockbuster showdown between Tottenham and Liverpool in north London.

Tottenham vs Liverpool preview

We should expect a festive flurry of goals when Tottenham host Liverpool this weekend.

Why? It’s the highest-scoring fixture in Premier League history. The last three league meetings between the sides have produced 21 goals, while 14 of their last 16 Premier League clashes have seen at least three goals.

It’s also fair to say that Liverpool have had the better of recent encounters.

Arne Slot’s side won both league meetings with Spurs last season by 6-3 and 5-1 scorelines. Tottenham, meanwhile, have won just two of their last 25 Premier League games against Liverpool (D6 L17).

The reigning champions will therefore feel confident heading to the capital on Saturday. Liverpool bounced back from their collapse at Elland Road by winning their next two matches against Inter Milan and Brighton, keeping clean sheets in both.

They’ve climbed to seventh in the table, sitting two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and ten adrift of leaders Arsenal after 16 matches.

Slot had been odds-on favourite to be the next top-flight manager sacked, but that unwanted tag has now shifted to Tottenham boss Thomas Frank following a difficult spell.

Frank – who recently told supporters there was “no quick fix” to the club’s issues – watched his side booed off after a 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Spurs have slipped to 11th after managing just one win in their last seven Premier League matches.

They’ve already lost four league games by three or more goals in 2025, while home has offered little comfort, with 10 home league defeats this year – their joint-most in a calendar year, alongside 1994 and 2003.

Odds are correct at the time of publication and are subject to change.

Goals

We expect the Premier League’s highest-scoring fixture to continue delivering, so we’re backing over 3.5 goals at 6/4 with William Hill.

As mentioned, this showdown has produced 206 goals in its history, with 21 goals – an average of seven per game – netted across the last three meetings alone. Liverpool have also scored in 25 of their previous 26 Premier League matches against Spurs, including the last 19 in a row.

As for Tottenham, they did manage to keep a clean sheet against Brentford in their last home fixture, but they’ve lost four league games by three or more goals in 2025 and have managed just one clean sheet in their last seven Premier League outings.

In form

We’re also backing Liverpool talisman Hugo Ekitike to continue his goalscoring run, available at even money to score anytime with William Hill.

As already mentioned, we’re expecting goals – and Ekitike could be the man to profit. The 23-year-old Frenchman has scored four goals in his last two Premier League games, netting braces against Leeds and Brighton. Only Luis Suarez has scored multiple goals in three consecutive Premier League games for Liverpool.
