Nuhu Abdullahi, the Coordinator of the Public Enlightenment Movement Project, announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of forest guards in Northern Nigeria. This initiative aims to protect communities and combat criminal activities in the region.
Abdullahi made this announcement on Sunday during the Phase 3 presentation of the Public Enlightenment Movement Project, where a video documentary showcasing the accomplishments of the Tinubu administration was presented to the audience.
He explained that the forest guards initiative is intended to enhance the capabilities of existing security agencies by improving surveillance and facilitating a faster response to security threats, especially in forested regions.
“In the video documentary we showcased, it was highlighted that forests have frequently been used as hideouts by bandits. With the introduction of forest guards, these areas are now being secured, eliminating safe havens for criminals,” Abdullahi stated.
He also mentioned other initiatives being supported by the President, such as the upgrade of the Federal Medical Centre in Kumo, Gombe State, which aims to enhance healthcare access for residents of the North-East.
Additionally, he pointed out various federal road projects throughout the North, including the Bauchi–Gombe road, the Nasarawa–Abuja route, the Gashua–Potiskum road, and the Gembu corridor that connects Nigeria to the Cameroon border.
Abdullahi indicated that these road projects are expected to facilitate movement, enhance trade, and reconnect communities affected by insecurity.
Regarding water supply, he noted that the Dutse water project in Jigawa State is part of the Phase 3 focus aimed at improving access to clean water and alleviating daily challenges for residents.
He encouraged the residents of Northern Nigeria to acknowledge the ongoing projects while continuing to advocate for further development.
“We should recognize the efforts being made, but that does not mean we should cease our demands for additional development,” Abdullahi remarked.
He emphasized that unity, responsible engagement, and public support are crucial for maintaining stability and fostering growth throughout the region.
