TINO LIVRAMENTO is in a race against time to prove his fitness ahead of the World Cup.

Newcastle’s England full-back, 23, was forced off in last week’s 2-1 home defeat to Bournemouth with a thigh problem.

That was the FOURTH injury setback the ex-Southampton ace has suffered this season.

Toon boss Eddie Howe revealed it is touch and go whether he plays again this season while the star awaits a second scan to determine the damage.

And that could put his place in Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions squad in serious jeopardy.

Howe said: “He went for a scan initially. We don’t think it’s a bad injury. It’s wait and see whether he’ll play again this season.

“He’s due to have another scan at the weekend, and that will determine the full extent of it.”

Five-capped Livramento featured in both of last month’s England friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.

And his ability to play either full-back role made him an attractive option for Tuchel going into the tournament.

But a torrid season on the injury front has restricted him to only 14 Premier League starts for his club.

Howe added: “Tino’s very level-headed, very stable mentally. He’s had a frustrating season, such a good season last year.

“He was outstanding, was fit and available and really contributed to what we delivered.

“This year’s been different, and that’s just the life of a footballer I’m afraid. He’s never been able to get that run of games to really find his best form.

“An outstanding player, we just hope he has a better run of health.”
