A member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has criticized the court ruling that has halted the party’s upcoming national convention.
According to DAILY POST, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja issued the ruling on Friday, preventing the national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan from taking place.
In response, George expressed that the ruling was both shocking and a threat to Nigeria’s democratic stability, cautioning that it could establish a troubling precedent.
He stated that political parties should be permitted to manage their internal affairs without unnecessary judicial interference, except in clear cases of constitutional violations.
“This judgment will harm our country. It poses a threat to Nigeria’s democratic stability,” he remarked.
“It is time the judge removed his wig and gown and engaged in politics,” George expressed in a statement.
The former Deputy National Chairman (South) of the party urged the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the National Judicial Council to rectify what he described as an unjustifiable intervention that could lead to chaos.
“Judges are not politicians. Their role is to interpret the law, not to interfere in party governance,” he concluded.
