The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has dissociated itself from a planned protest against the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, scheduled for Tuesday, January 20, 2026, in Abuja and across other states of the federation.
In a statement issued on Monday from its National Secretariat in Abuja, the party said it had been alerted to reports suggesting that it intended to stage a protest march at INEC offices.
The NNPP, however, described the planned demonstration as illegal and distanced itself completely from those behind it.
The statement, signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, said the individuals organising the protest were impostors and not members of the NNPP.
The party cited a judgment of the Federal High Court delivered on April 18, 2024, in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1354/2024, in which Justice Emeka Nwite upheld their expulsion from the party by its appropriate organs.
According to the NNPP, the affected individuals have not appealed the court judgment but have instead continued what it described as “forum shopping” in search of court orders without any legal foundation.
“NNPP wishes to reiterate that it is not involved in any protest slated for Tuesday, January 20, 2026, and to state categorically that the persons behind the protest are impostors,” the statement said.
The party further called on its members nationwide to remain calm and avoid being provoked by actions it said were aimed at distracting the NNPP from its stated objectives, reaffirming its commitment to lawful and democratic processes.
