Akin Osuntokun, former Political Adviser to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, has accused former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, of using the alleged importation of poisonous gas to divert Nigerians’ attention from the established corruption case against him.
El-Rufai had written an official letter to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, seeking clarification over reports that his office imported 10 kilograms of thallium sulphate, a highly toxic and strictly regulated substance, into Nigeria.
Reacting, Osuntokun described El-Rufai’s remark as irresponsible and reckless.
In an interview with Arise Television, the former presidential aide said: “Look at what El-Rufai said about the importation of a poisonous substance; that is most irresponsible and reckless.
“It is obvious that he was using it to distract attention from the well-established corruption charges against him. So the opposition itself has not been doing itself much good by the conduct of its own people; they are shooting themselves in the foot.”
The former presidential spokesman also stated that the opposition is unserious and acting irresponsibly.
“The opposition is unserious, not ready for elections, and we are less than a year to the election. The opposition in Nigeria is acting irresponsibly,” he added.
