The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa says in recent operations across parts of the North-East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai have killed about 80 terrorists.
Speaking during an operational visit to the Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, where he assessed ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in the region, Musa explained that the operations were carried out in Malum Fatori, Damasak and Magumeri.
He added, βThe troops continue to operate under difficult security and environmental conditions in the theatre.β
The minister hailed the performance of the Theatre Commander and personnel, saying that they have sustained operational pressure on insurgents despite challenges on the ground.
He lamented that sometimes what is being achieved is not reported, but when there is failure, it becomes the focus, appealing to Nigerians to continue to work hard for Nigeria as so much has been done.
Musa urged Nigerians to support the armed forces and avoid narratives capable of undermining troop morale, saying that soldiers remain committed to restoring peace in the region.
According to him, βIt is like a goalkeeper who concedes one goal, and that alone changes the narrative of all the good saves he has made.β
The minister also appealed to journalists, particularly those based in Maiduguri, to ensure balanced and accurate reporting of the conflict, saying that those on the ground are better positioned to understand the realities of the operations.
Musa said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved funds for the procurement of additional equipment, including aircraft and drones, to support ongoing operations in various theatres in order to enhance their capability.
He added that the government is also strengthening international defence cooperation, including engagements with Turkey in order to enhance counter-terrorism capabilities and operational effectiveness.
