And the actor behind the terrifying clown character, David Howard Thorton, has revealed his “pride” at the impact the slasher film – – has had on fans.

He told The Sun: “There is a little bit of vindication there.

“I’m like, yeah, we did something, we affected people in a certain way. Also, I know I got grossed out at some parts, so the fact that the audience does too, well, it means I don’t feel like a total wimp.

“It’s kind of cool and it’s kind of a sense of pride to know that people had to get up and leave your movie because they got so scared or grossed out.”

The horror movie star continued: “You don’t want people walking out in other genres of films, but in horror it’s like a badge of honor.

“And in fact a popular podcaster from Australia didn’t believe that people were actually walking out of the cinema to throw up, so she herself went to a showing to see what happens.

“She said ‘you won’t believe me when I tell you that two people passed out.’

“And she said ‘it’s true, people are passing out, puking and leaving.’ Someone even passed out and cracked their head open on the floor next to her.

“So yeah, it does mean I’ve done my job well.”

After watching the third film, fans flooded to X to share their thoughts on the gruesome flick.

One person wrote at the time: “Terrifier 3 is the most mean, bloodiest and arguably best instalment in the franchise yet. David Howard Thornton delivers both his scariest and funniest performance.”

A second praised the gore, writing: “Terrifier 3 is a hack-slashing masterpiece in all its not rated glory! The gore was over the top and disgusting! Not in my wildest nightmares could I have conjured up this legendary trinity of a killer clown!”

David spoke to The Sun about how he gets into character to playand admitted that, luckily, he’s not a method actor.

The star revealed: “I basically just show up on set, they put me on makeup. I goof around, I’m myself, and they say action and I become Art. They say cut, I go back to David.

“Especially after three films, I know where the character lives in my head, so I can bring him out at any time and put him away when I need to.”

Of the three films, David admits that the bar scene in the third was his favourite to film, as it gave him the opportunity to “flex his muscles” as a comedic actor.

Fans of the film have claimed that they’re “obsessed” with the scene on X, and David feels much the same.

“I was doing a scene with these men that I’ve watched in movies my whole entire life,” the actor shared.

Adding: “I was with Danny Roebuck, Clint Howard and Bradley Stryker, and so being able to do comedy with these guys that are, you know, legends themselves in the industry was just pure joy for me. I had so much fun that week.

“And Damien said to us ‘I got the script, I got words on the page, but you guys are the pros.’

“So he just told us to go ahead and have a play around with it, and it was just pure joy. We had so much fun doing that.

“Don’t get me wrong there are different things that I’ve been uncomfortable doing because I’m a big softy at heart.

“I’m a pacifist in real life and so I really had to get used to the fighting in these movies and doing back things to people.

“But I always try to check in with my co-stars and make sure they’re OK. I don’t want to hurt them, especially children.”
