POLICE are searching for a man following an alleged sexual assault on a teenager.
Authorities have released CCTV footage of the individual they wish to interview regarding the incident that occurred in St James’ Park at 10 PM on Saturday, August 16.
The suspect is described as a man in his 30s, believed to be of Asian descent, and approximately 5 feet 4 to 6 inches tall.
He was reported to be wearing black clothing and carrying a black rucksack at the time of the incident.
An investigation was initiated after the incident was reported, which includes CCTV analysis, social media inquiries, forensic examinations, and witness statements being taken.
The officers involved are pursuing various leads and are in contact with the victim, who has been referred to multiple services that support individuals who have experienced sexual violence and abuse.
DC Channon Dayus, the officer handling the case, stated: “This is a terrible incident that has caused significant distress for the victim and her family.
“We want to reassure the community that while we have not received any similar reports involving other victims, one incident is too many, and a thorough investigation is currently underway.
“The CCTV inquiries we have conducted since this distressing sexual assault have led us to seek identification of the man depicted in the footage.
“We are always mindful of the impact that publicity regarding such offenses can have on victims, but we have been unable to identify this man ourselves, and thus we are requesting the public’s assistance, as identifying him will help advance this investigation.”
