A TEENAGER who was imprisoned in Dubai due to a holiday romance with a 17-year-old girl has tragically lost his life in a car accident.
Marcus Fakana, 19, passed away yesterday in a collision in Tottenham, north London.
Radha Stirling, the founder of Detained in , who provided support to the teen and his family, announced the news on social media.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, she stated: “We are devastated to announce that our client and friend, Marcus Fakana, has tragically lost his life in a car accident in Tottenham following his release from jail in Dubai.
“His passing serves as a painful reminder of the value of life and how unnecessary imprisonment steals moments that can never be reclaimed.
“Every day of freedom is significant.”
At the time of his sentencing, Marcus was 18 years old and received a one-year prison term for his involvement.
Both Marcus and his young partner had met while vacationing with their families.
During his time in detention, Marcus endured several months in the harsh conditions of Al Awir prison.
He was granted a royal pardon, which led to his early release from Al Awir prison in the United Arab Emirates.
He returned to the UK in July prior to the unfortunate accident.
