The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that parts of Borno and Yobe have been plunged into darkness following the vandalism of its Tower T347 along the Gombe–Damaturu 330 kV transmission line.
The spokesperson for TCN, Ndidi Mbah, revealed this information in a statement on Saturday, indicating that the incident occurred on Friday at 5:46 PM.
The Federal Government agency strongly condemned the act of vandalism.
However, it noted that bulk electricity supply continues in certain areas of the affected states, including Beneshiek, Damasak, Bama, University Campus, Maiduguri Town, Monguno, and Damaturu and its surroundings through alternative methods.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) wishes to inform the public that its Tower T347 along the Gombe–Damaturu 330 kV transmission line was vandalized on Friday, October 24, 2025, at approximately 5:46 PM.
The TCN team, which conducted a routine inspection along the line route, discovered that the legs of the tower had been cut off, resulting in a tilt to one side.
“This incident has caused a partial disruption of the bulk power supply to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, and Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, as well as the surrounding areas.
“Meanwhile, TCN engineers are already on-site, working to replace the damaged tower and restore normal transmission.
“TCN strongly condemns this act of vandalism and urges the public to safeguard national assets and report any suspicious activities to security agencies or the nearest TCN office,” TCN stated.
