The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has announced a planned power outage in parts of Sokoto metropolis to enable it carry out scheduled maintenance at the Sokoto Transmission Substation.
TCN disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.
According to the statement, the company will conduct annual preventive maintenance on the 30/40MVA power transformer at the Sokoto Transmission Substation on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
TCN explained that during the maintenance period, the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to receive bulk electricity from the affected transformer for onward distribution to customers in some parts of the state.
Areas expected to experience power interruption include parts of Sokoto town such as Sama Road, Abuja Road, Gagi area, Minanata area, Old Airport and the Army Barracks.
The company said the planned maintenance is aimed at improving service delivery, stressing that the exercise is necessary to ensure the safety, reliability and efficient operation of transmission equipment supplying electricity to the affected areas.
TCN apologised to electricity consumers for the inconvenience the outage may cause and appealed for understanding as efforts are made to enhance power system performance.
