The Naira recorded a significant week-on-week gain against the United States Dollar at the official foreign exchange market.

Central Bank of Nigeria’s data showed that from January 9 to 16, 2026, the Naira appreciated by N5.22 against the dollar at the official FX market. The local currency closed at N1,417.95 per dollar on Friday, representing a 0.37 percent gain from the N1,423.17 recorded during the same period last week.

Accordingly, the Naira in the week posted four gains and only one-day loss against the dollar, which occurred on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, at the black market, the Naira remained stable at N1,490 per dollar in the week under review.

The uptrend in Naira at the official FX market follows the steady rise in the country’s external reserves, which rose by $0.19 billion, or 0.42 percent, to $45.86 billion as of Thursday, 15th, 2026, from $45.67 billion last Friday.
