Taskforce intercepts trailer loaded with 350 bags of iron monoxide in Taraba

Operatives of the Special Taskforce Committee on Environmental Protection, Public Safety and Prohibition of Deforestation today intercepted a trailer transporting about 350 bags of iron monoxide, allegedly loaded from Gashaka Local Government Area of Taraba State.

According to the taskforce, the consignment was being moved in defiance of Governor Agbu Kefas’ directive suspending all forms of mining activities in the state.

The operators, as further gathered by DAILY POST, were also reportedly attempting to evade government revenue checkpoints.

The intercepted truck and its contents have since been handed over to the Special Mobile Court sitting in Jalingo for trial and prosecution.

The interception, as made known by the taskforce, underscores the state government’s renewed crackdown on illegal mining activities.

Governor Kefas, it would be recalled, had earlier imposed a total ban on mining in Taraba State due to escalating concerns over environmental degradation and land misuse.

Authorities vowed that enforcement operations will continue across all local government areas to ensure full compliance.
