A suspended member of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Mr Olaide Ibraheem, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the party leadership, warning that failure to reinstate him will result in legal action.
Ibraheem made the declaration on Tuesday while speaking to journalists in Akure, insisting that he remains the legitimate chairman of the party in Ondo State and demanding immediate reinstatement.
He expressed displeasure over what he described as the embarrassment caused by his suspension, which he said was carried out by the National Chairman of the party, Mr Raphael Nwosu.
According to him, he assumed office as the ADC State Chairman through a duly conducted state congress held on October 7, 2020, with security agencies in attendance and without any opposition within the party.
He stated that since his assumption of office, no further state congress had been conducted, adding that he single-handedly financed the party due to the absence of political office holders or external subventions.
“I occupied the office meritoriously and conducted the party’s affairs strictly in line with the party’s constitution,” he said.
Ibraheem alleged that he was removed from office on November 28, 2024, in what he described as an embarrassing and unceremonious manner that was contrary to the provisions of the party’s constitution.
He argued that Article 2 of the ADC constitution emphasises the supremacy of the party over individual authority, stressing that the National Chairman lacks the constitutional power to remove a state chairman.
The embattled party chieftain said he delayed taking action in the hope that respected elders within the party would intervene and persuade the national leadership to reverse what he termed a “terrible mistake.”
“However, it is clear that nothing has been done. That is the reason for this peaceful address,” he said.
He therefore issued a 14-day ultimatum to the party leadership, beginning from Tuesday, to reinstate him, his executives, and the local government executives of the ADC in Ondo State who were removed in November 2024.
“If corrective action is not taken, we shall take further steps. They will hear from my lawyer,” he warned.
