Gunmen have taken the life of a notable politician in Zamfara State.
The deceased, Alhaji Umar S. Fada Moriki, was a recognized political figure within the state.
According to reports, the attack occurred on Saturday morning along the Gusau-Tsafe highway while he was traveling from Gusau to Kaduna.
In a statement released by the Zamfara State chapter of the APC, signed by the party’s publicity secretary, Yusuf Idris, it was noted that the late politician was killed shortly after participating in a stakeholders’ meeting led by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle.
The 62-year-old had previously held the position of vice chairman of the Zurmi Local Government Area, served as a director in a government agency, and later worked as a special assistant to the governor on rural electrification.
During the 2023 elections, he ran for the House of Representatives seat representing the Zurmi and Shinkafi federal constituency.
