The European champions thought they had the lead with Marc Cucurella’s strike, but it was ruled out for a soft foul on the Austrian goalkeeper.
They did get their deserved lead as Mike Oyarzabal slotted past Alexander Schlager from Cucurella’s low cross in the 36th minute.
Spain almost got their second as Alex Baena struck the bar from a free kick and Lamine Yamal could only hit Schlager with the rebound.
Pedro Porro headed in his first-ever international goal in the 65th minute to add some comfort to his side’s position.

Former Chelsea man Carney Chukwuemeka fired wide for Austria as they tried to get themselves back into the tie.
But any hope of a comeback was ruled out as Oyarzabal broke through and made it 3-0 in the closing stages.
