The Southern Traditional Rulers Council, which consists of Royal Fathers from the 17 States in the Southern region, has appointed the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, as their Council Coordinator. This decision was made in recognition of his significant contributions to ensuring that Traditional Rulers receive constitutional acknowledgment in both traditional and administrative matters concerning the country.

The Council announced this decision when members of the technical committee, led by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, visited the Governor at the Government House in Owerri. They aimed to inform him of the Council's decision and to request his assistance in seeking an audience with the President.

Oba Adeyeye emphasized that, after thorough consideration, the Council unanimously agreed that Uzodinma is the most qualified individual to coordinate their affairs for the benefit of the region and the nation as a whole.

He noted that the Governor has made significant strides in supporting the leaders of their local communities, particularly in promoting security and unity within their jurisdictions.

“This courtesy visit was not only to inform the Governor about the appointment but also to update him on the upcoming meeting.

We acknowledge the crucial role he plays in the current political landscape and the rapport he has with the President. Therefore, we present this letter to him, seeking an audience with the President,” he stated.

In his reply, the Governor expressed his gratitude for the recognition from the Traditional Rulers and assured them that he would not let them down whenever they seek his assistance.

Uzodinma reiterated that Monarchs have essential responsibilities in society and encouraged them, as guardians of traditional institutions, to confront the ongoing challenges facing the nation.

“I will not only reach out to my fellow Governor Abiodun regarding your upcoming meeting in Ogun State, but I also assure you that I will convey your message to the President,” he affirmed.
