The Labour Party (LP) in Sokoto State has appointed a new State Executive Council, promising to contest the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

The congress, which took place on Saturday at the party Secretariat along Kano Road, gathered delegates from across the state for what the organizers described as a peaceful and well-organized event.

Mr. Yemi Adeyemi, the Chairman of the Congress Planning Committee, praised members for their discipline and dedication, calling the successful event a sign of renewed strength within the party.

He emphasized that the LP is fully prepared to participate in the 2027 elections and vowed to “eliminate the poor governance and mismanagement” associated with the APC.

During the event, party leader Mr. Efanyi Ezeagwu reflected on the party’s notable victories in Lagos and Abuja during the 2023 elections but claimed that internal interference impacted the results.

He asserted that such disruptions would not be accepted in 2027.

Ezeagwu encouraged Nigerians to support the Labour Party, characterizing it as a platform dedicated to enhancing citizens’ welfare and dignity.

He also criticized the current administration for worsening economic conditions and insecurity, alleging that governance under the APC benefits only “friends, family, and party loyalists.”

The newly elected members of the State Executive Council include: Abubakar Yawale as State Chairman, Alhaji Saidu Ahmad Muhammad as Vice Chairman, Nura Abubakar as State Secretary, Aisha Mukhtar as Women Leader, Oke A. Jikan Shehu as Treasurer, Jamilu Adamu as State Organizing Secretary, Abubakar Musa as Publicity Secretary, and other deputy chairmen representing Sokoto Central, East, and South.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Yawale expressed gratitude to delegates and supporters for their trust and committed to inclusive leadership.

“I will maintain an open-door policy, where every loyal member can offer suggestions or raise concerns at any time,” he stated, highlighting that the party is focused on rebuilding and preparing for success in the 2027 elections and beyond.
