CHRIS WAKELIN has disclosed that he nearly withdrew from the Scottish Open after his one-year-old daughter fell ill and was admitted to the hospital.
On Sunday night, he triumphed over Chang Bingyu with a score of 9-2 in the final held in Edinburgh, earning the Stephen Hendry Trophy.

On the day he secured his first-round victory over Oliver Lines on Tuesday, December 16, his daughter Mia required urgent medical attention while the family was in Scotland.
The 33-year-old explained: “We arrived here on Sunday, and by Tuesday lunchtime, we found ourselves in the hospital with her.
“She wasn’t feeling well. Thankfully, the nurses were able to help her recover.
“When I returned from my first-round match, both she and my fiancée, Lucy, were doing well back at the hotel.
“To think that just five days ago, we were considering pulling out, and now I’m standing here with the trophy is incredible.
“I will always cherish the moment I was able to celebrate with both of them.
“Lucy stayed at a different hotel on Saturday to give me a bit of space the night before the final.
“I have so many excuses—more excuses than when I lose.”
Wakelin has now risen to 14th in the world rankings, with £529,200 to his name.
However, he has missed out on next month’s Masters at the Ally Pally, as his rise into the top 16 came too late for the cut-off.
He remarked: “This is unbelievable for me. A couple of years ago, I couldn't envision myself walking out for a major final and keeping my composure.
“It has been such an unusual year. I reached the quarter-finals and semi-finals in Saudi, but aside from that, I hadn’t accomplished much.
“It’s strange to find myself in the later stages of tournaments. This season has been challenging.”
