Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, has urged Hamas to promptly release all Israeli civilian hostages without imposing any conditions.

In a statement on his verified Facebook page on Saturday, Gumi characterized the hostage-taking as a “miscalculation,” emphasizing that it should not have occurred in the first place.

He encouraged Hamas to rethink its strategy and concentrate on reclaiming Palestinian territory through what he referred to as a “just use of force,” which he believes is their rightful means of self-defense.

Gumi’s comments followed reports indicating that Hamas had consented to release some Israeli hostages as part of a ceasefire plan facilitated by U.S. President Donald Trump, who also urged Israel to cease airstrikes on Gaza.

“Hamas should release all civilian hostages unconditionally. Kidnapping them was an error,” Gumi stated.

“They need to devise a new strategy and advocate for their land in an honorable manner. Victory will come with Allah’s assistance, and it is imminent.”
