Political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, described the recent elections in Tanzania, Cameroon, and Ivory Coast as “sham exercises” and “a disgrace to the African continent.”
In a statement released on Thursday, Frank asserted that what transpired in these three nations were not genuine elections but rather “selections” tainted by manipulation, intimidation, and political terrorism.
He expressed concern that instead of allowing the people's will to prevail, incumbent leaders in Africa continue to impose their authority through fraudulent practices.
“These elections are a disgrace and a source of shame for Africa. In this 21st century, the continent should be advancing in democratic governance, yet we are witnessing an escalating culture of rigging, violence, and oppression,” Frank stated.
He urged the international community, including the United Nations, the United States, and the European Union, to refrain from recognizing or congratulating the results of such fraudulent elections.
According to him, the global community must take decisive action to safeguard democracy in Africa before the continent descends into chaos.
“If no action is taken, this systematic rigging might soon result in widespread civil unrest and an increase in coups across the continent,” he warned.
“The U.S. and EU should impose targeted sanctions on these leaders and their associates who have undermined the democratic process in their countries,” he added.
He further advised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to prepare for the 2027 general elections, emphasizing that the polls must not replicate the manipulation seen in other African nations.
“Nigeria’s 2027 election must not follow the same old patterns.”
“Any attempt to undermine the people's will will be met with strong resistance. Nigerians will no longer remain silent,” he cautioned.
According to DAILY POST, the recent elections in Tanzania, Cameroon, and Ivory Coast have led to political crises in all three states.
